STREET

I’m often drawn to the raking side light found under a bridge or at the entrance of a subway. The dominant shadows shape surface textures and provide undulation. This is what I like to refer to as the ‘dark light’. Where the ‘dark light’ falls objects seem more three dimensional and almost tangible in relation to the deep shadows. The 'Allegory of the Cave' from Plato’s Republic comes to mind.
